How Download Estimation Works
To calculate download times, we convert everything to bits. Storage is measured in Bytes (8 bits = 1 Byte) and network speeds are measured in bits (1 Mbps = 1,000,000 bits per second).
For example, if you are downloading a 50 GB game on a 100 Mbps connection:
- 1. Convert 50 GB to bits: 50 × 1024 × 1024 × 1024 × 8 = 429,496,729,600 bits.
- 2. Convert 100 Mbps speed to bits: 100 × 1,000,000 = 100,000,000 bits per second.
- 3. Divide size by speed: 429,496,729,600 ÷ 100,000,000 = 4,295 seconds.
- 4. Convert to time: 4,295 seconds ≈ 1 hour, 11 minutes, 35 seconds.
